A very common question that I get from my dental implant patients in Jaipur is this one- “Which is the best dental implant brand?”

After 10 years in practice in the field of dental implantology,I can surely say the right question should be – “ Which is the best dental implant brand FOR ME?”

I am twisting around the question like this because the success of dental implant procedure is based on the following parameters:

• Experience and skill set of the operating dentist
• The quality and quantity of the bone where the dental implant is to be placed.
• The infrastructure of the clinic where the procedure is to be performed.
• Lastly, the brand of the implant being used.

Experience and skill set of the operating dentist

This is the most important factor is the success of any dental implant procedure. Dental implantology is a very technique sensitive and only in the hand s of and experienced and meticulously trained surgeon can success be assured.

The implant surgeon whom you select should have done hundreds of implants, should be well trained, should be a specialist and should be very transparent with regards to the possible positive and negative outcomes of the implant procedure.

The quality and quantity of the bone where the dental implant is to be placed.

Success of dental implants depends heavily on the amount of bone that the patient has.The width and height of the bone determines the length and width of the implant that can be placed in the bone.Only when proper size of the implant is placed, can a tooth which has been fixed over it can last for more than 15 years or so.

To judge the bone, the treating implant surgeon will order a CBCT scan. This scan will make a 3 dimensional image of your bone and the dentist can evaluate the bone properly.

In 7 out of 10 cases of dental implants, bone grafting is needed and the implant surgeon should be well versed with bone grafting procedures. There are many ways to do it and we at our dental implant center in Jaipur mostly use patient’s own bone to do bone grafting. This is our core strength and we have been very successful because of that.

The infrastructure of the clinic where the procedure is to be performed.

Many times we have had cases where the dental implant has to be repeated. This usually happens in cases where the patient has got an implant done at a clinic which though is suitable for routine dental procedures like fillings and root canals but not for sophisticated procedures like dental implants.

We have also seen a practice for dental implants in Jaipur where the general dentist calls a specialist to perform the surgery. But sometimes in an arrangement like this when few months later some assistance is again needed it becomes very difficult for the general dentist to help the patient.

Please make sure that you select a center where the dentist himself knows how to do the implant procedure and has all the necessary equipment and armamentarium necessary for performing dental implants.

The brand of the implant being used.

There are many companies available for dental implant in Jaipur.Right from very expensive ones like Nobel Bio care, Zimmer, Straumann to mid-range implant companies like Dentium,Osstem, Alpha bio to cheaper ones like Bio line and Adin. Each brand has its own advantage and disadvantage and patients should evaluate the presence of the company, the history of the company and most importantly how comfortable your chosen dental implant surgeon is using a particular brand of implant.

Also in many cases the width and height of bone is such that only a particular brand of implant can be used because each company comes with its own sizes and diameter of implant screw.
